Darkest Hour - Working on Album #8 at Oceanic Studios, Bethesda, MD with Producer Taylor Larson.
Darkest Hour, after recently completing a successful North American tour supporting Killswitch Engage, wasted no time getting back to work. Upon returning home, the band immediately headed to Oceanic Studios to record with producer Taylor Larson. Darkest Hour will be recording their much-anticipated new effort through the end of September.
Michael Schleibaum (guitars) states: “When John Henry (vocals) and I started the band some 18 years ago we could have never imagined the sound would travel this far. The making of this record (dating back to January of 2012) was both a painful and joyful one and the end result has become something truly transcendent. John’s work with Taylor on the new demos has proven to be the best he’s ever sounded and the introduction of the creative minds of both Travis Orbin (drums) and Aaron Deal (bass) have taken the songwriting someplace otherworldly. You can expect a massive evolution. The Killswitch tour couldn’t have come at a better time for us creatively. It gave us the time and space to think about the album as a whole and really craft something special.”
John Henry further comments: “To say that writing with Travis has been a metamorphosis is an understatement. His playing style and influence has soaked itself into the soul of the band. His perspective has brought new life into both our writing process and way of thinking. Taylor has fresh ears and new eyes on both production and the way people hear music. We’ve recorded with some amazing producers (Brian Mcternan, Fredrick Nordstrom, Devin Townsend, Peter Witchers) who all in one way or another brought their own spin to the band’s sound. However, with these new demos we hear the potential for a new sonic overhaul and can’t wait to dig in and track these final takes.”
Darkest Hour Signs Worldwide Deal With Sumerian Records.
YEP we have signed a worldwide deal with Sumerian Records and are hard at work on their much anticipated new full-length album. The group are currently on tour throughout North America with Killswitch Engage, Miss May I and The Word Alive. Head over to www.facebook.com/
DARKEST HOUR states: “To say that Sumerian Records and label owner Ash Avildsen are big supporters of this band would be a huge understatement. We have been proud to call Ash our friend since our early years and this friendship has flourished greatly since then via our relationship with his sister company, The Pantheon Booking Agency.
“When you start a band you dream that one day you can do what you love with great friends and family around you. Now it all seems to have come full circle. With the good people at Outerloop Management, Sumerian Records and the Pantheon Agency we finally feel right at home. Every aspect of the group is being handled by long-time trusted friends and is in reliable hands. This safe haven has given us the shelter we need to put together a life-changing new album.
“Before we could see it coming, we’ve been thrust out of Oceanic Studios (where we’ve been working with producer Taylor Larson) and back out on the road. Please come see us live with Killswitch Engage (dates listed below) if we’re coming to your city and it will also be our first tour with new drummer Travis Orbin. As soon as we get home we’ll be back to the hermit life in the studio where we can finish up this album. To our brother Ash, Sumerian and all of you out there here’s a huge cheers to 2014, a new DARKEST HOUR album and the future.”
Ash Avildsen further comments: “DARKEST HOUR are some of the best dudes I have ever met in music. They’re also one of the most underrated bands in metal and Sumerian is here to change that. Their influential debut album, The Mark Of The Judas, which never saw the real light of day due to their label at the time going under the day it came out, will finally get a proper release this fall, along with a new studio record. DC pride.”
Drummer Travis Orbin joins Darkest Hour, work continues on new album.
It is with extreme excitement for the days ahead that Washington D.C. Melodic Death Metal veterans DARKEST HOUR proudly announce the addition of drummer Travis Orbin. Travis brings his unique perspective and talents to the table as a seasoned touring musician (Periphery, Sky Eats Airplane) and as a noted session drummer.
“The chemistry has developed into something special, unique, and new. It’s hard to deny this feeling when you’ve been releasing albums for as long as we have and we couldn’t be more ready to unleash this new sound of ours on your senses,” says guitarist Mike Schleibaum.
Formed in 1995, DARKEST HOUR have released seven full length albums including the highly acclaimed: The Human Romance (2011), Undoing Ruin (2005), and Deliver Us (2007). With a long history of successful releases and years of worldwide touring DARKEST HOUR are ready unveil this new metamorphosis.
Travis explains, “I’ve been jamming and writing the new record with the guys for over a year. It’s been especially rewarding in that everything was composed in a room together, a wholly organic process that I haven’t experienced in a long while. I’m excited about the tunes, signing on as a full-time member, and can’t wait to hit the road!”
Singer John Henry adds, “This is a very exciting time in the history of the band. Travis is hands down one of the best drummers I have ever seen, and is bringing to the table an incredible and inspiring amount of talent and musical ability. This marks the beginning of a new era for DARKEST HOUR, one you will have to hear and see to believe!”
Travis has joined the band in the writing process for their much-anticipated eighth studio full-length noting positive, natural progression and renewed energy. DARKEST HOUR’S new album is slated for a late 2013 release.
